The end of the school year for schools on the traditional calendar for SDUSD is fast approaching and so is the fiscal year for majority PTA’s across all levels.  For the SDUCPTA, the board members are nearing the end of the first year of their two-year term, which includes me.  I am currently up to my eyeballs in sequins and hairspray as one of the organizations I volunteer for is having their annual Spring Recitals in Balboa Park. However, I have been busy trying to make sure all of the Continue reading

“First Timer” shares her perspective on the California State PTA Convention

Introduction:

As a fairly seasoned PTA volunteer,  I thought it would helpful to ask a fellow PTA volunteer to share her thoughts on attending the California State PTA convention.  I have asked a first timer not only to being a PTA Leader as the Unit President but also to attending the California State PTA’s convention recently held in San Diego to share her thoughts on her experience to attending the convention.  In her own words, meet Claudia Camacho, mother of four children, and PTA President for Hawthorne Elementary PTA.

Celeste Bobryk-Ozaki, President, San Diego Unified Council of PTAs

President’s Message – May 2016

This is the time where hopefully many of our PTA Units are in a transition period as they have elected the board for the 2016-2017 year.  I am finishing up on the first year of my two-year term as the President for SDUCPTA.  And if your PTA Unit hasn’t had elections, please don’t forget that the SDUCPTA is here to help, shoot us an email at info@sdcouncilpta.org if you have questions or would like our assistance.  If you haven’t done so already, please send in your PTA Unit’s Board Roster for the 2016-2017 year to info@sdcouncilpta.org.

Some of the units have asked me when is a good time to start planning for next year, the short answer is, start thinking about ideas now.  The board-elect can present a provisional budget to the association to seek approval in order to allow the unit to operate over the Continue reading
